A (Hopefully) Short-Lived Hiatus From DIY’ing

As you guys may have noticed, I’ve kind of taken a hiatus from doing any new projects. Not because I want to, really, more because I just don’t have the funds at the moment. I don’t start my new job until the 16th, and my husband has a barely above minimum wage job. Soooo… finances are super tight right now, and I’ve already made all the essentials (cleaners, etc.), so there’s really nothing for me to do at the moment. Hopefully I will be back soon with another project!

Buddy’s Chip In Page For Medical Care

Our cat Buddy is in desperate need of getting up to date with his shots and de-wormed. We are not in a financial state right now where we can pay for the vet bill ourselves, otherwise I wouldn’t even be posting this right now. We need $150. Every little bit helps, even if it’s just $1. Please share this with your friends as well… 🙂 I hope you guys have a wonderful day!

DIY Laminate Floor Cleaner

I finally got my living room completely cleaned and arranged to where I want it. With that, I also did a quick vacuum and mop with some homemade mopping solution. For my house, it’s going to take a few good moppings (why YES, I DID make that word up!) to really get the floor good and clean because of all the dust and dirt that settled on it from the construction. But so far it’s working really well!

Homemade Mopping Solution:

One part vinegar

One part water.

Yup, that’s it. I use a Swiffer-like mop from the Cedar brand. I like this mop a lot because you can wash the pads up to three times (yay for less waste!) and you can make your own solution, instead of having to buy refills all the time. Again, YAY FOR LESS WASTE! lol

Here is what my living room looks like so far using the vinegar/water solution (I know, I missed some spots. I had sweat dripping down into my eyes and couldn’t really see well. lol):

Let me know if you try it and what you think of it!

Words Can Not Even Express How Angry This Makes Me!

This article is about a woman whose garden was taken away from her on false allegations of it being not up to city code. This woman was not only growing the food for sustenance, but also to naturally treat her diabetes and arthritis, along with other various health conditions. She is unemployed, so this garden was also her livelihood. So they took away her life AND her livelihood. It just sickens me that someone can’t even grow a garden without the city coming in. The city code officials violated a court order and came and ripped up her entire garden. Ugh, I could just SPIT NAILS!!!

The url above is to the article, which contains a link to sign a petition on change.org. Please read the article and sign the petition to stand up for your rights as a civilian to grow your own food and medicinal herbs!

We Nailed It!

Last time we had our final inspection for our house, we failed. They said our lights needed to be ark fault protected, we needed a main disconnect for the water heater, and the smoke alarms needed to be hardwired to all go off at the same time.

So we got them fixed and we had our final inspection this morning. We passed with flying colors this time! We are now living in our own home! It feels sooooooooooooooo good to not be confined to a tiny little room! Our poor cat Buddy though, he’s still in the tiny room we were in. He’ll be home soon though and he’ll get to meet his brother Shadow, who is currently an outside kitty.

As soon as I can find our camera again, I will take pictures of the house! YAY!

Falling Into Place

It seems like now that we’re finally getting moved into our new house, things just keep falling into place for us. *knock on wood*

Thursday, as I was taking a break from moving and unpacking, I got a call from a former employer asking me if I want to come back to work for them. So I pretty much said “Hells ya I’ll come back to work for you guys!” They are a great company to work for. Mostly because I don’t have to wear a uniform, and I can dress up on Halloween! lol

So my interview was today. I had two interviews (one of the interviewer’s names was Thor, how cool is that?) and a drug test. Which, of course, I passed with flying colors. 🙂 So now I have a new house AND a new job! Hooray!

Next week I’ll be doing some more DIY’ing. I’m just too tired this week.

I Know Lieing Is Bad…

I posted an entry yesterday saying that I will post pictures of my DIY’ing whirlwind. Well, I did do a lot of DIY today but, to be honest, there was just so much going on that I didn’t really have time to take any pictures. I needed to get this stuff done fast. The people that were supposed to come over TOMORROW to help me clean ended up coming over TODAY. So, I just wanted to say I’m sorry for no pictures! Next time I do some DIY I’ll take some, I promise! To make it up to you, here’s a recipe for some DIY dishwasher detergent:

1 cup Borax

1 cup Washing Soda

Mix well.

If you want spotless dishes, use a splash of distilled white vinegar as a rinse agent! 🙂

The Day Is Finally Here!

The day is finally here! My husband and I can finally start buying essential things (like a mop, broom, etc) for our house! I am SO STOKED! I’m gonna be DIY’ing like a son of a gun tomorrow. hehe 😀 There will be so much Johnny Cash on the record player that my husband will never want to hear it again!

Also, this winter my very good friend Brian might be moving in with us… super-stoked for that too!

I will be posting all sorts of pictures tomorrow of my DIY’ing flurry… be prepared for awesomeness!

Paranormal Investigations of Missouri Phenomenon

Again, this post doesn’t have anything to do with sustainable living or anything like my normal post (I’m on a roll lately! ;)) Not only do I like to DIY my own household stuff, but I am also a paranormal investigator. This weekend my group and I are going to Carthage Battlefield (a Civil War battlefield) in Carthage, MO. Hopefully we’ll get some EVP’s (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) and some sweet pics. If you want to see the pictures this weekend after we’re done, stop by and like our Facebook page!
